One of the hallmarks of Nifty Tech is the fact that it takes work off of your hands. As a result, one very easily begins to take it for granted. The tech blends into the background, and instead you focus on just getting things done. This week I’m going to be looking at a piece of tech that I’ve been taking for granted for a while. This may not be useful for many, but for some of you, it could be very interesting, indeed. Today, we’re looking at WordPress.

Apple TV

This is a review that I’ve planned to do for a long time. It seems like each time I get geared up to do this review, the manufacturer changes something about the product and sets me back to square one. Which means that I’m trying to do a review of a very good, unsung piece of hardware and software, and then they do something that just makes it better. Darn them!

Technical Difficulties.

We are sorry for the problems with the previous post “I’m bringing Nifty Back” giving a 404 error. We’re working on the problem, but WordPress doesn’t seem to be behaving properly at all. We apologize for any inconvenience.

UPDATE: The problem is fixed now. Seems to have been a small issue with our permalinks, but we have it all sorted out.

I’m bringin’ Nifty Back.

This blog has been quiet for a while, but I wanted to assure folks that it hasn’t gone away. Scott and I have both had to take time away from Nifty Tech to pursue other projects. We had set a pretty steady pace, but with all the demands on our time we weren’t able to sustain it. But the Nifty Tech Blog isn’t quite dead yet. We are in the process of gearing up again, and you will have an opportunity to contribute to the success of the blog.

#FollowFriday – @NaNoWriMo: The official voice of National Novel Writing Month!

by Doc Coleman October 28, 2011 Follow Friday
Thumbnail image for #FollowFriday – @NaNoWriMo: The official voice of National Novel Writing Month!

I know things have been pretty quiet around here in the past few months. Things have been pretty chaotic for me this summer and The Nifty Tech Blog has pretty much taken the brunt of it. Scott has also had a tough time of it, with publishing a Young Adult novel and a collection of Horror short stories. We do have some folks lining up to do some guest reviews for us, but that still doesn’t get me out of my share of editing duties.  So where am I going with all this? We have more content coming, it is just going to take a little bit to get it out to you. Part of the reason for this is this week’s Follow Friday pick: @NaNoWriMo.

Rest Well, Steve Jobs

by Doc Coleman October 5, 2011 Editorial

The staff of The Nifty Tech Blog would like to offer our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Apple Chairman of the Board Steve Jobs. Jobs died earlier today at age 56. Given that Steve was always very protective of his private life, no details have been released as to the cause of his death. However, given his struggles with pancreatic cancer, it is expected that cancer was the cause of Jobs’ death.

Jobs was a visionary in terms of business and technology, and his efforts to shape the world of digital technology has had a lasting effect on the world. We at the Nifty Tech Blog salute Jobs and his dedication to finding a better way of doing things. We will continued to be inspired by his vision and hope to continue finding products worthy of Steve for years to come.

#FollowFriday – @Americas911: Honoring First Responders, their families, and the victims of the September 11th attack.

I am not a big one for politics. Really, I’m not. A lot of the time I see politics as the opportunity to choose a side between two incorrect answers to an irrelevant question. There are problems inherent in the system, and all the energy goes to choosing sides instead of actually attempting to solve the problems. I just can’t get that worked up over answers to the wrong questions. So, that said, I hope you’ll forgive me if this post comes off as more politically inclined. I will admit that I am a bit ticked off over it, which is why this article is under the Editorial category too. So please indulge me, as I’d like to tell you a little about @Americas911, and what they’ve been doing.

Ghost Ship

Summer this year has interrupted the normal flow of things here at The Nifty Tech Blog. While we haven’t been giving you the normal flow of content, that doesn’t mean that we have been completely idle. Unfortunately, we have put a bit of time into researching some tech that didn’t measure up to or standards, but really wasn’t bad enough to rant about. And Scott and I have both had work and family issues to deal with. But sometimes you come across something that is review-worthy even when you’re not looking for it. In this case, I feel like I just have to share some of my summertime reading with you. I recently finished reading Ghost Ship by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. This is one of their Liaden Universe novels and it holds a special place in the collection. It is the third book in one series and the 8th book in another series, and… it’s kind of complicated.

I follow a lot of different creative people on Twitter. I follow a lot of creatively different people on Twitter. And I follow some people who are just good folks. But sometimes you find someone who is creative, different, and still good folks. To demonstrate my meaning, I give you @Dansr.

This week we have a special late night #FollowFriday to honor one of my favorite late night stars. In this case, the star in question isn’t known for late night television, but is instead a television star who is usually up late at night. Folks, I give you the official Twitter of Pauley Perrette, @PauleyP, probably best known as Abby Sciuto, the quirky and sexy forensic scientist on CBS’s “NCIS.”
